Bamburgh Beach

roamnorth

Bamburgh, voted the UK's best seaside destination in the UK for it's fourth consecutive year. If you have been before then you can definitely understand why. Beautiful houses, long sandy beaches, Bamburgh castle, and a popular surfing spot.

As a child we visted Bamburgh a couple of times a year. It was somewhere we would have a quick stop after visiting Beadnall and Seahouse. But it wasn't until a few years later when i took the hour journey from the RoamNorth HQ that i realised there was a lighthouse.

Bamburgh Castle RoamNorth

Driving from Seahouses the castle comes into view through the sea fret. It's an impressive castle, one of the largest inhabitated castles in the UK. Set on it's rocky plateu over looking the North Sea. No wonder it's been chosen as a filming location multiple times, including being used in Indiana Jones & the Dial of Destiny. The castle out on events thorughout the year and you are able to tour the inside of the castle. If you have your little 4 legged friend with you they are able to explore the 9 acres of land around the castle but if you would like to explore inside the castle then we recommend using the dog sitting service available through Northumberland Dog Rescue, who just ask for a small dontation of £5 for 30 minutes. This service is only available on selected days between May and Septemeber so we recommend checking on the castles website and pre booking.

Located down a street opposite The Lord Crewe ( a good place for a meal or drink) there are 2 small car parks with easy access to the beach. Please note these car parks have a height restriction so if you are planning on visiting in your camper then we recommend parking in the car park next to the castle.

Bamburgh Lighthouse RoamNorth

With miles of beach to walk allow plenty of time to explore. Located at the North end of the beach is Bambugh Lighthouse. Built in 1910, the most northernly land based lighthouse in the UK, helped guide ships along the Northumberland coast and the Farne Islands.

Once at the Lighthouse you will notice a white stag on the rocks. Known as Stag Rock, this painting has been here since at least the 1800's. It's exact history is unknown but legend has it that a stag jumped into the sea here rather than being killed by hunters.

Bamburgh is a popular spot for Surfing. If you have never surfed before then we recommend NE Surf School @ne.surf who offer quality coaching for beginners and advanced surfers.

This location inspired our Bamburgh Dreamin' T-shirt.
